TRIMMING A LACE FRONT?

TRIMMING A LACE FRONT?

Hey guys, this is another wee post from me just surrounding some chat that I have heard of late on social media regarding Lace Fronts - namely in regard to the Jon Renau Welded SMARTLACE front wigs.
WHAT IS SMARTLACE?
Smartlace is the Trademarked term by Jon Renau to describe the lace front on many of their styles. The lace type itself is welded lace, and the term smart lace is more than just about the material....... the design of the cap with the Jon Renau lace front welded SMARTLACE wigs is rather special - the construction is created to also ensure a good fit to your cap. It is more than just about the material.
DO YOU HAVE TO CUT LACE FRONT WIGS BY Jon Renau?
Smartlace is created as a ready to wear / pre-cut lace. You do NOT have to cut the lace on your wig, and it is not something that is mandatory whatsoever.

SO WHY WOULD IT BE CUT?

If your lace front lifts ever so slightly over time, or there is mild fraying (this should not happen when well cared for), then trimming back that lace can assist in minor problems.
Personally, I cut my smart lace wigs very often...... this is something I personally do due to a skin condition that I have, and to make the front of my wig line more comfortable where my skin is problematic.
ARE THERE NEGATIVES?
If you decide that having your lace front trimmed is something you want, it is ideal to get someone who has expertise in this area to do so for you....... although you can do this yourself.
RULES:
- For Jon Renau Smartlace wigs, ONLY use the Jon Renau Lace Front Shears
          - These are weighted and designed SPECIFICALLY for welded lace
          - If you use sharp scissors, the lace can split as it is WELDED together
          - If you use pinking shears that are not appropriately weighted, again the lace
            can separate.
- The appearance of lace post trimming will give a shark tooth look...... ensure the peaks and troughs line up when you trim the lace
- Post cutting, ensure you do not have any of those little "teeth" folding under, as this can lead to further damage to your wig.
- With the Jon Renau Smartlace wigs, there is a "POINT OF NO RETURN" and you DO NOT want to cut too far back.
There are many alterations that can be made to lace front wigs - including thinning out the density....... again, this has to be done in a specific way (NOT PLUCKING).......
The good news is...... your wigs come ready to wear, and they give the appearance of the hair growing from your own scalp. There is no requirement to make any adjustments....... but if you do so...... just remember:
     - Follow Manufacturer Guidance
     - Use Appropriate Tools
     - Follow Good Aftercare
